Youth Gardening Programs
Youth Gardening Programs
Urban Youth Agriculture is a small business that was founded in 2014. Over the last 8 years we've developed multiple school & home gardens throughout the metro Detroit area, provided agriculturally based lessons and activities to multiple schools, youth summer camps and afterschool programs. UYA currently teaches agriculturally based weekly and biweekly lessons and growing techniques to youth across the Detroit metropolitan area through our multiple educational & training programs. The UYA farm was officially acquired from the city in 2021 and is currently still in development stages. It's designed as a production style urban farm, outdoor learning environment and the main campus for our summer programming.
We're working to reconnect youth back to the earth, introduce food awareness and teach youth good agricultural practices through activities and work on our farm, lessons & training programs.
The vision for our farm operation is to feed, teach and train urban youth on entry level gardening. We hope to have a predominately youth lead farm staff generated from youth that have graduated from our training programs.
